Document by Socialist Party of Cyprus

Dear Comrades,

We salute the international meeting that has been organised on the 10th occasion of the massacare of the Serbian people by the reactinary NATO imperialist forces.

Socialist Party of Cyprus continue to forge ahead in her struggle to become the vanguard organisation of the working class of Cyprus. The working class, labourers and poor peasents of Cyprus, like all of their comrades of the world, continue to live in the vices of expoitation and oppression. North Cyprus was already experiencing the economic crisis even before the outbreak of this capitalist-imperialist crisis. The outbreak of the imperialist financial crisis in October, last year, and the economic crisis that has been following it, has strangled people of north Cyprus even more... The south is also getting its share of this crisis, as well. The price of the most fundamental means of consumption and the price of the fundamental necessities, like electricity and water, has gone up significantly. Despite this, the wages of the workers and labourers remained unchanged, and the living standard of workers and laboures that live on selling their labour power only has declined, rapidly.

As north Cyprus is under the occupation of Turkish Republic, and as a result of this it is politically and economically dependent to Turkey, it is diretly affected by the negative developments in Turkey. The packages and agreements that Turkey has signed with IMF, World Bank and other imperialist institutions have been impemented in north Cyprus one way or another, with small amendments. Being economically dependent to imperialism also brings political dependency, as well. Those who live by selling their labour power, the workers, labourers, public employees and poor peasents have been living with the fear of their future.

The workers and labourers have been even more expolited by the legistlations passed by Republican Turkish Party (CTP) during the past 5 years, that came to the government claiming to be on the side of labour, peace and democracy in north Cyprus. They have even passed those legistlations, the ones that the right governments were too scared to pass. The new social security legistlation that lowers the social gains of those to the level of the ones that do not have them, has become a law despite protests from the working people.

We are not even talking about the problems, such as education, health, working conditions, employment rights, right to be a member of a trade union in private sector.

We have the problem of independece and democracy, in addtion to the problems we are facing. Our country is under the occupation of NATO forces with their military bases, armies and the biggest listening posts in the world. The formation of Republic of Cyprus with a bourgeois-imperialist agreement legalised the existence of the armies of Greece-Turkey and Britain on the island. Despite the imperialists declaring that they have solved the national question with so called Republic of Cyprus, this agreement lasted for 3 years, and in the long run until 1974, until the intervention of Turkey militarily. The imperialists did not solve the national question in Cyprus. This problem created by the imperialists has been transformed into an impossible problem, even ignoring the bourgeois-imperialist international laws they have created. Native and foreign bourgeois-imperialists could not solve the Cyprus national problem with the bourgeois-imperialistst international law. They cannot!

Once more, the meetings of Christofias and Talat has exposed the reality that the real independence of Cyprus cannot be achieved with bourgeois-imperialistst framework. Two “left-wing” governments -AKEL and CTP- still are talking about the preservation of the guarantors. Two “lef-wing” leaders are still taking about the primacy of bourgois law, each asking to show respect to it. The result: For 50 years the right-wing bourgeois-imprialist leaders had meetings on Cyprus problem and could not solve it; even the “left-wing” leaders could not solve the Cyprus national question in the same framework, either; beacuse it cannot be soved witin this framework.

If there is not going to be an impositon by one of the big imperialist powers, or if the working class and toilers do not stand up to threaten the bourgeois-imperialist interests this problem will drag on with the bourgeois framework. We always live under the threat of forcing the frathernal people to kill each other, the risk of making war against other nations and countries, making propaganda of war and providing facilities to warriors, the risk of crime against humanity, as declared by comrade Stalin.

Comrades,

The policy of our Party, Socialist Party of Cyprus, with regard to Cyprus problem is clear. Our party claims that it is not the task of native and foreign bourgeois-imperialists to fight against imperialism, it is the task of the workers and labourers. It is not possible to pave the way to socialism and fraternity without the elimination of all the imperialist armies and powers in Cyprus. Only one way is left for the Cyprus problem. The Anti-Imperialist United Front Government, as proposed by our Party.

As our Paty, SPC, is concious of the fact that this problem will drag on until Cyprus is broken away from the imperialist chain, it has intensified its activities during the election campaing, that has just started in north Cyprus, with the aim to spread our policies among the broader working class and labouring masses within the county and in Greece, Turkey and Britain as well as revolutionary organisations of the world.

When the people of Cyprus becomes a threat to the imperialst interests in Cyprus, the imperialsts, the bourgeoisie unite in a single body facing us. Therefore, we, the workers and labourers of the world, especially of the revolutionaries, workers and labourers of Greece, Turkey and Britain must unite against this imperialist exploitation. The importance of these three countries is the fact that these three have their occupying armies, officials, the means of economic and cultural oppresion in Cyprus. In short these three are the most influential among the imperialist powers that are ruling Cyprus. Beacuse of this, our Anti-Imperialist United Front Goverment policy need to take the prescence of these into account.

The Programme of our Anti-Imperialist United Front Goverment, that has been shaped through the discussions over the years, is formed with the following points:

1. Annulment of all the rights and negation of all the demands of foreign powers.

2. Nationalisation without compensation of all the properties of the big bourgeoisie who, through their alliance with the above mentioned imperialist powers have betrayed the Greek and Turkish people of Cyprus.

3. Nationalisation without compensation of all the land and the properties on such land of the big landowners, including the Church and the Vaqif. Nationalisation without compensation of all the land and the properties on such land of the military bases of Turkey, Greece and England. Distribution (to use) of all these lands and properties to the Greek and Turkish people of Cyprus who have lost their personal property as a result of wars and genocides in Cyprus, to the landless peasants and homeless workers and state employees.

4. To guarantee the national rights of Cypriot people from both nationalities. The prohibition of all the organisations and activities that ferment national and religious enmities between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots and all other ethnic minorities.

5. To take all measures needed to better the living and working conditions of the workers and the labouring masses of Cyprus who shall win and preserve the anti-imperialist united front government.

6. The prohibition of establishment of organisations based on national-religious differences among the working class of Cyprus and prohibition of division of working class organisations on the basis of nationality-religion.

7. To give the right to become the citizen to all foreign and illegal workers fighting for this programme in the new Cyprus which will be established after the victory.

8. Provision of the freedom of settlement, movement and ownership in accordance with this programme.

Comrades,
This programme brings the most intelligent, the most realistic, the most humanitarian solution to Cyprus problem. The leaders of communism, Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin repeateadly iterated the basic reality, that “the workers of the countries that have imperialist activities cannot liberate themselves unless they fight for the independence of the country that is kepeeking it under the yoke”. In this sense, some responsibilities fall onto the shoulders of Greek revolutionaries. Support the United Front policy of our Party! Let us work together for the independence of Cyprus! This is more than a demand, it is a reminder of the necessity. This is more than a request, it is bringing to the forefront one of the important problems.

Dear Comrades,

The roots of our Party goes back to the Commnunist Party of Cyprus, who was a member of Comintern. This policy is the policy of Comintern. This policy is the policy of Lenin, Stalin, the teachers, the leaders of the world proletariat. Our Party is a small vanguard of the world proletariat. However, her roots goes back to Karl Marx, Frederik Engels and Communist League formed by the European workers. Our Party has Communist Manifesto in her foundation. Our party has the life experience of the world proletariat in her foundation; the views of the communist leaders and parties that have evaluated the theoretical, pragmatic, strategic and tactictics of this movement correctly. Our Party has Boshevik Party in her foundation, the Party of Lenin and Stalin that has lead and captured power in the Great October Socialist Revolution, built socialism and moved forward to communism.

We have inherited these foundations from the Commnunist Party of Cyprus! We have inherited this from our Greek and Cypriot comrades, our vanguard the Commnunist Party of Cyprus!

Bolshevism will win! Bolshevism will win in Cyprus, in Greece, in Turkey, in Britain and in Balkans!
Long live the fraternity of the people!
Long live the power struggle of the working class!
Down with enemy of the people, imperialism and its collaborators!
Long live communism!
Hail to Marx, Engels, Lenin ve Stalin!
