CARC Party’s statement about October Revolution

Let’s advance on the road opened by October Revolution!

Ninety years ago in Russia, in these days, workers and peasants led by communists seized the power, and built the first socialist country in humanity’s history. The first socialist countries grew from it, till they included a third of humanity. They demonstrated in practice and on a large scale that capitalism is not eternal, that it is not the only one nor the best mode of production possible, that labourers can do without masters and that they can rule a country better than them. The Third International grew from it, and promoted and inspired the formation of new communist parties that organized, oriented and directed anti-colonial and national liberation struggles, new democracy revolutions, and partisan Resistance against Nazi-fascism all around the world.

In these days we have been told in all kinds of ways that October Revolution started horror, that Communism is the same as Nazism, that Communism was a terrible tragedy and that the thousands of desperate people coming to Italy from Rumania and other former socialist countries prove it: we have an “Honourable” parliamentarian who even proposed to establish the crime of “apology of Communism”. They are the rightist bourgeoisie, Berlusconi and the like, joined by the leftist ones, who have just now constituted the so called “Democratic Party” They are the representative of the big industrialists, sharks of finance, speculators, high functionaries, Mafia men and Vatican hierarchy. They are the ones who want to impose us the High Speed Trains, the US base at Vicenza, the July Protocol against workers’ rights, the precariousness, the immigrants hunt, in short the bourgeoisie’s common program. They are the ones who want to drive workers and labourers back to hundred years ago, in the name of the “recovery of national budget”, of “national security”, of the “safety of national economy”, of the “war against terrorism”.
What remains of bourgeois left wing, the remnants of former revisionist Italian Communist Party, the leaders of the Party of the Communist Refoundation and of the Party of Italian Communists, at best tell that Communism is a surely nice and noble but impossible ideal, that its practical realization produced only “errors and horrors”, that October revolution, even if it was glorious, by now it belongs to the past. We may honour it once a year but it is closed, it is a nice picture to hang on the wall and look at it with nostalgia.
Today, in our country, there are hundred of thousands of workers and labourers with no more trust in masters, their authorities and popes, who are determined to put an end to all “pleasures” the bourgeoisie imposes them. They voted NO at the referendum about the theft of the severance pay and so they did for July Protocol, they went to demonstrate against the government on 20th October, they went on strike on 9th November, they promoted and organized thousands struggles to oppose the antipopular measures of Berlusconi’s gang before and of Prodi’s Circus now. Many of them have the October Revolution and the red flag within their heart. We say to all them: let’s not be directed by all those who, though, as they say, reluctantly, support bourgeois and Vatican interests, let’s unite and built the Popular Bloc to carry the teachings of October Revolution in every corner of the country and in every mobilization!
Contrary to what rightist and leftist bourgeoisie are telling, the October Revolution is not dead at all. The seeds it planted are still living also in our country: in the conquests the popular masses, led by communists, wrung out from bourgeoisie, on the wave of the strength and the successes of the international communist movement all around the world. They live in consciousness, feelings, aspirations that drive hundred thousands of workers and labourers to say NO to the common program of imperialist bourgeoisie. They live in the organizational ability they settled among hundred thousands of workers and labourers and lead them in struggle and mobilization.
Comrades! The decay we are more and more thrown in is has quite definite reasons! It is due to the fact that the masters have taken again the freedom of exploitation, plunder and devastation the communist movement had limited (in imperialist countries) and taken away (in socialist countries). They took it again not only because we are again in a phase of general crisis as we were at the first half of last century, but most of all because of the weakness and desegregation of the communist movement, caused by decades of direction by the revisionists, the supporters and promoters of the conciliation between labourers and bourgeoises (the “peaceful cohabitation between capitalism and socialism” of Kruscev and the “structural reforms as peaceful way to socialism” of Togliatti and Berlinguer).
In the socialist countries thing became to go wrong when, starting from the Fifties of the latest century, the revisionist took the direction of the communist parties, of the State and productive organisms, and inverted their direction, provided scope for the capitalist relations of production, giving again power and freedom to old and new bourgeoisies. The horrors began starting from 1989-90, when the criminals and the new Tsars, good friends of Berlusconi and esteemed friends of Prodi, began to restore on a wide scale the private property of the means of production and to impose the integration at any cost in the world imperialist system.
In the imperialist countries the direction of revisionists drive the labourers and the popular masses to lose step by step the conquests and rights they wrung out with antifascist Resistance and the great struggles of the following decades.
Against the drift the leftist bourgeoisie drags the popular masses in, we need to go again the way opened by October Revolution, to pick up its teachings and to valorise that experience that allowed the popular masses of Soviet Union and of first socialist countries to do miracles in every field: in production, health care, education, women’s emancipation, culture.
We have to promote the rebirth of the communist movement advancing all over the world: the popular revolutionary wars in Nepal, Philippines and elsewhere, the glorious antimperialist resistance of Palestinian, Iraqi, Afghan and Lebanese peoples, the antimperialist democracies of Latin America, the resistance of workers and popular masses in the imperialist countries. This is the best way to celebrate the October Revolution!

Long live the rebirth of the communist movement!
Long live the proletarian internationalism!
Let’s make Italy a new socialist country!
